Ewenny Road Declaration Signed |
A special report from Chief Editor, Jonathan David Abraham |
Following several months of bar room conciliation and covert negotiations, an on-going altercation between two Bridgend rugby enthusiasts has ended. The cessation of hostilities was achieved by the joint signing of the so-called Ewenny Road Declaration. |
Local town councillor Phil Tapper and Bob 'Major' Millar became embroiled in a white-hot conflict over two years ago. Both are regulars of the Five Bells Inn but a companionable lunchtime discussion about the previous days Heineken League results deteriorated into an ill-tempered confrontation at the bar of the hostelry. |

Millar, who ironically originates from Cardiff, had been slating the merits of the Cardiff players. Tapper, a life long Cardiff supporter, and ironically not from Cardiff, had been equally verbose in his condemnation of that most famous of Cardiff delicacies, the Clarks Pie, a particular culinary favourite of his adversary. A state of non-communication has existed between the combatants ever since. |
Fatigued with this puerile behaviour, Mr John Frederick Charles Collins, also a regular of the Five Bells, assumed the responsibility of bringing to an end this ugly dispute. Secret meetings, conducted over the last few months, have culminated with an end to hostilities, sealed with the signing of the declaration. Relieved regulars can now carry on imbibing at the Bells without an ever-present over-riding threat of confrontation hanging over them! |
