Bridgend Superstar in Hidden Treasure Discovery

A special report from Chief Editor, Jonathan David Abraham

Bridgend's own movie superstar, forty-two year-old Ian Tiberius Williams, received a multi-million pound pay-out last year for his role as James Bond in the smash hit of 2002, The Spy Who Thumped Me. His new financial security has provided him with the opportunity to indulge his lifelong passion for diving and he has recently passed with distinction as a British Master Diver.

Legend

Another of Ian's passions is local history and he has been interested for many years in the legend that Coity Castle, Oldcastle and Newcastle are linked via a network of ancient underground passageways, tunnels and caverns. Evidence to support the story came to light in 1996 when a large hole appeared in Merthyrmawr Road, close to his home. The workmen repairing the damage reported a narrow flooded tunnel running apparently from the Oldcastle area of Bridgend toward the river Ogmore.

Penetrate

Ian recently unearthed an overgrown tunnel entrance along the riverbank and was able to penetrate the vegetation to begin what would become an historic dive of discovery.

The tunnel took him northwards and he was shocked when after about three hundred and fifty yards of flooded tunnel he came across a secret cavern of hidden treasures. Closer inspection revealed a quite modern haul of riches which included hundreds of twenty and fifty-pound notes, share certificates, bonds and roll upon roll of old fashioned white-fivers. He immediately informed the authorities who are keeping the location of the discovery a closely guarded secret.

STOP PRESS

A Bridgend County Borough Council mole has leaked an internal memorandum to The Bugle that indicates the historic site is a top-of-town water-well situated in the backyard of a domestic property close to the Five Bells end of Coychurch Road.
