He Counted Them Out and He Counted Them Back In!

A special report from Chief Editor, Jonathan David Abraham, additional reporting, Holly Abraham

A bright sunny day greeted two hundred or so walkers as they gathered at Bridgend Recreation Centre this morning. Also there to greet them was the reassuring sight of Chief Steward, David Kitchener Dobbs.

Appeal

They were there to take part in a sponsored walk on behalf of the Velindre Hospital Appeal. Mair ap Gruffydd and Joyce Sutton, the walk's organisers, had earlier asked David to take responsibility for the safety of those taking part. David is no stranger to charitable activities, though he doesn't like to talk about it, and immediately agreed.

Chief

The Chief Steward proceeded to diligently brief the assembly, taking particular care to warn of the dangers of crossing the busy A48. Fully informed, the walkers set off earnestly toward Ogmore Castle.

Shepherd

The South Wales Constabulary had declined to shepherd the walkers across the A48, but the participants needn't have worried as David strode confidently into the middle of the busy road. He held up his hand to stop the traffic and every single one of the walkers was able to make it to the other side injury free and in complete safety.

Discussing his actions later at the Pelican in her Piety Public House a proud David explained that he took his responsibilities very seriously adding "I counted them out and I counted them back in!".

STOP PRESS

A nine-year-old fund raiser was saved by her brave and fearless father when he plucked her out of the raging River Ogmore after she had fallen off one of the Stepping Stones.
